Cohort Assignments 2011


Pre-Conference: Thursday, September 8

  1. Complete this survey.
  2. Send an introductory email to dslearning2011@posterous.com(this will be publicly available / shown on the open web).
    • Include your name and any links (blog, twitter, school website) for yourself. Add a picture if you can!
    • Write a few sentences describing yourself PROFESSIONALLY, and optionally include a link to a media file (image / video / etc) which highlights your professional focus/passions.
    • Write a few sentences describing yourself PERSONALLY, and optionally include a link to a media file (image / video / etc) which highlights your personal focus/passions.

Friday Session 1 - Audio (no-edit audio recording)

  1. Record and share a story WITH AUDIO ONLY about a teacher who made a difference.
  2. Use one of the audio recording tools on our Audio Resources page. (Recommended tool: SoundCloud)
  3. Email the link to your audio recording to dslearning2011@posterous.com
  4. Comment on submissions by others on our cohort blog.

Friday Session 2 - Images (Visual Charades)

  1. View examples of 5 photo stories
    1. 5photos.posterous.com (blocked in China)
    2. www.flickr.com/groups/fivephotos/discuss/ (blocked in China)
  2. Working with members of your group, create and share a 5 photo digital story / story in 5 frames
  3. Theme suggestions / ideas: A Fairy Tale, A Fairy Tale at Learning 2.011 (Fractured Fairy Tales), justification for why you came to the conference (serious or silly)
  4. Attach all five photos to a SINGLE email and send it to dslearning2011@posterous.com
    Use a subject for your email which does not "give away" your story theme.
  5. Comment on submissions by others on our cohort blog.

Saturday Session 3 - Video I (75 min)

  1. Explore digital storytelling (video) resources
    or
  2. Create a video (or part of a video) using any of the resources shown
    1. Write a brief script for your video (or at least outline the script) with your team.
    2. Create a short (3-5 minute) video with members of your team using one of the video tools / resources.
  3. ** YOU NEED TO SHARE THIS! Send what you’ve done (good finds, video, next steps - whatever!) to the blog. E-mail to dslearning2011@posterous.com
